World Tourism Day 2024: 4 villages of Uttarakhand get ‘Best Tourism Village Award’
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar participated as the Chief Guest in the World Tourism Day celebrations organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi today. The Best Tourism Village Award was received by the Pradhans of selected villages of Uttarakhand at the award distribution ceremony.
In this year’s Best Tourism Village competition, Jakhol village in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand was selected for adventure tourism, which is known for its height, beautiful natural scenery and challenging trekking routes. This village is becoming increasingly popular among adventure enthusiasts. Harshil village in Uttarkashi district and Gunji village in Pithoragarh district were honored as Vibrant Villages. Harshil is famous for its natural beauty, snow-capped mountains and apple orchards, while Gunji village, which is located near the China and Nepal border, holds a special place due to its strategic and cultural importance. A confluence of local culture and modernity is seen in these villages. Supi village in Bageshwar district was awarded for agricultural tourism. Supi village is known for its traditional agricultural practices and rich cultural heritage. To promote agricultural tourism, efforts are being made to connect tourists with rural life and farming, so that the rural economy can also be strengthened.
It is worth noting that the Best Tourist Village Competition is organized every year at the national level by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Conservation of culture and natural wealth, promotion of community based values and lifestyle and commitment towards economic, social and environmental sustainability are kept in it. Entries are invited from the states on these subjects. This year, four villages of Uttarakhand were selected on the basis of entries.
