Japan hit by one of the strongest typhoon in decades

This year’s most powerful typhoon ‘Shanshan’ has hit Japan. Shanshan reached the southwestern island of Kyushu at 8 am on Thursday. According to media reports, the storm has caused torrential rains and winds are blowing at a speed of 252 km per hour.

The storm has caused a lot of damage in many areas. Japan’s Meteorological Agency said that Shanshan, which is known as Typhoon No. 10 in Japan, has cut off electricity to more than 2.5 lakh houses.

As per local media reports, 10 lakh people have been affected by this storm across the country. At the same time, more than 40 people have been injured.

6 months’ worth of rain fell in 2 days

The Meteorological Agency has estimated 1,100 mm of rain in Kagoshima province in the last 48 hours, which is about half the average rainfall of the whole year. Due to heavy rains, a landslide occurred near Satsumasendai city.

The Japanese government has issued a level 5 emergency warning in some areas of Kagoshima. This is the biggest warning given in the country during a disaster. In this, people have been asked to stay in their homes and those living in low-lying areas have been asked to go to a safe place. Trains have been cancelled. Buses and other vehicles have been banned from operating.

Level 5 warnings have been issued only 3 times in Japan before this. In July 2014, a powerful storm hit Okinawa province, when such a warning was issued for the first time. After this, such a warning was also issued in Okinawa in October 2016. After this, this warning was issued in Kyushu Island in September 2022.
