Metric for 1 Kg weight to change soon
Soon, the method of measuring one kilogram weight is going to change. For the last 129 years, the cylindrical weight held in France was considered to be the standard one kg weight worldwide. However, now the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard is working on a new formula for a kilo weight.
Why need to change the scale of one kilo?
Now the question arises that after 129 years, why was the need to change the measuring scale of one kg? Answering this, Zeina Kubarych from NIST says, “The standard weight of kilo is called Grand-K.” It is captured in a small glass box, which is a high cylinder equal to the ball of golf. It takes considerable resources in its security and supervision. Despite this, there is a danger of its destruction. With the destruction of this, there will be no scale for exact calculation, which is why one kilogram formula needs to be prepared. ‘
Story of a kilo: 143 years old
143 years ago in 1875, 17 countries together formed the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in France. Its job was to set up a unit of seven standards for different things. 7 Standard (SI) unit were fixed.

- Kilogram for weight
- Seconds to time
- Ampere for current
- Kelvin for temperature
- Mole for the quantity of substance
- Candella for light intensity
A physical scale to measure every standard
Not only this, a physical scale was kept in the BIPM for measuring every standard. For example, a long rod was laid, which was ideal one meter. Keeping this ideal rod as reference, scale of one meter was decided. Similarly, in 1889, a kilogram of ideal was placed in the BIPM and it was named the Grand-Ken. Later, the mathematical formula was gradually changed by changing the physical parameters of the other six SI scales. Although the kilogram has survived, it is now being molded into formulas and the NIST of America is working on it.
