Nepal’s PM Oli resigns
The protest that started over the ban on social media has now turned into a major constitutional crisis. On the first day of the protest, social media remained an issue, but after the ban was lifted, on the second day the entire focus shifted to overthrowing Prime Minister KP Oli’s government. KP Oli has resigned in view of the situation. The Army Chief had also demanded his resignation and the Nepali Congress had also advised him the same.
It is being told that hundreds of protesters had entered his office, after which he resigned from his post. PM Oli has submitted his resignation letter to the President. He has had to leave his post due to the ongoing violence and rebellion in the country. His 4 cabinet ministers had already resigned.
On Monday morning, the angry mob, enraged by the death of 19 protesters, set fire to the personal residences of the President and the Prime Minister and held the ministers hostage in their homes, after which they were rescued by chopper. The spark of rebellion that started with the ban on social media in the neighboring country Nepal is now flaring up all over Nepal. The situation is such that the youth of the new generation are roaming around with stones and sticks in their hands in many areas of Nepal. The police are having a tough time controlling them. They entered the Parliament building and vandalized the houses of high profile people holding important constitutional posts.
