The rescue team has informed that 2 people have been rescued alive. Many of the remaining 55 passengers are feared dead.
The accident happened at 5:37 am (local time 9:07 am) according to Indian time. The plane was about to land at Muan International Airport. At the same time, a fault was detected in the landing gear. Due to this, its wheels did not open and come down.
When the wheels did not open, the plane was made to do an emergency belly landing. In this, the body of the plane directly collides with the runway. During this, the plane slid on the runway and hit the boundary wall of the airport. As soon as it collided, there was a loud explosion in the plane and it became a ball of fire.
After the accident, operations at the airport have been stopped. All local and international flights have been cancelled here. According to Reuters, the plane had received a bird hit alert from the control tower.
Tried to land twice, accident happened the second time
The plane of Jeju Airlines that crashed was a 737-800 plane of the American company Boeing. The plane tried twice to land at the airport. The plane could not land the first time because the landing gear did not open. After this, the plane circled the airport once.
The pilot decided to belly land the plane without landing gear for the second time. According to many media reports, it is being claimed that a bird hit the wing of the plane. Due to this, the landing gear got damaged and could not open while landing.
