Plane catches fire after collision at Tokyo airport
A plane caught fire at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. According to Japan Times, the plane collided with a Coast Guard plane before landing. During this period, 5 out of 6 crew members aboard the Coast Guard plane died. The pilot, despite being injured, managed to escape from the plane.
A spokesperson for Japan Airlines (JAL) said the passenger plane had departed from Shin-Chitose Airport in Hokkaido. There were about 367 passengers and 12 crew members on board. Everyone has been taken out safely from the plane.
The Coast Guard plane was going to deliver essential goods to the earthquake affected areas. Japan’s Transport Ministry is investigating the entire matter. Video footage from cameras installed at Haneda Airport by Japan Airlines and NHK captured the terrifying moment flames erupted from the plane shortly after it touched down. It can be seen in the video that a huge explosion of fire and smoke was seen as the plane took off on the runway. After this a fire broke out in the area around the wing. Footage from an hour later showed the plane completely engulfed in flames.
