Trump demands China roll back tariffs or face additional tariffs

A fierce battle has erupted between the US and China over tariffs. US President Donald Trump has warned to impose an additional 50 percent tariff on China. China retaliated after the US President’s order to impose reciprocal tariffs by announcing a uniform 34 percent tariff on the US. However, in less than 48 hours, Trump has retaliated.
US President Trump has given China’s President Xi Jinping 24 hours to withdraw the additional tariff imposed against the US, failing which additional tariff will be imposed on Chinese goods.
President Trump made this announcement at around 11:30 am (US time – 9 pm Indian time). Citing his previous warning to China, he shared a post on his social media platform Truth Social, in which he wrote, “Yesterday China issued a retaliatory tariff of 34 percent, which is in addition to already record setting tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, illegal subsidies of companies, and massive long-term currency manipulation, while I warned that any country that retaliates against the US by issuing additional tariffs beyond our country’s already existing long-term tariff abuses will immediately face new and significantly higher tariffs, which will be even higher than the initially set tariffs.”
Trump has given a day’s time
He warned that “if China does not withdraw the 34 percent increase above its long-term trade abuses by tomorrow, April 8, 2025, then the US will impose an additional tariff of 50 percent on China, which will take effect from April 9.” Amid the growing tariff war globally, the angry US President also threatened to end all talks with China. He also said that countries that have not responded to the US import tariffs will be given a chance to negotiate.
