US company begins Covid-19 human vaccine trials in Australia
The corona virus continues to wreak havoc all over the world and there is a continuing development regarding its vaccine. A US-based biotechnology company announced the launch of a coronavirus infection drug in Australia in humans, and expects the pandemic to be introduced later this year.
Dr Grigory Glenn, lead researcher at biotechnology company ‘Novavax’, said that the company has started a first phase trial in which the vaccine will be tested on 131 volunteers from the cities of Melbourne and Brisbane.
Glenn said in an online press conference from Novavax’s Maryland headquarters, “We are producing drugs and vaccines together thinking that we will be able to show that it works and make it available to the public by the end of the year”.
Significantly, in China, America and Europe, about a dozen experimental drugs & vaccines are in the initial stages of testing or are about to begin their trials. It is not clear yet whether any of these will prove to be safe and effective, but many medicines work in different ways and are made with different techniques, this has increased the expectation that any of these could be successful.
‘Novavax’ told the Associate Press (AP) last month, ‘We do not even touch the virus in the medicines we make but ultimately it looks like a virus for immunity.’ He said, “This is the same way that Novavax makes medicine with nanoparticle for cold flu.”
