Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun get Nobel Prize 2024 in medicine for microRNA discovery

The announcement of the Nobel Prizes for the year 2024 has started from Monday. Under this, the names of the winners of this honor for the field of Physiology or Medicine were announced. This year, Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun of US have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Both have been given this honor for the discovery of microRNA. This year’s award is the 115th Nobel Prize given in Physiology or Medicine since 1901. The Nobel Prize for Physics 2024 will be announced on Tuesday, followed by the announcement of the Chemistry Prize on Wednesday.

They received the award in 2023

Earlier in the year 2023, Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. They were given this honor for their discoveries related to nucleoside base modifications. This discovery helped in the development of effective mRNA vaccines against the corona virus i.e. COVID-19.
