Former CM BS Koshyari to be new Maharashtra governor
Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the second Chief Minister of the Interim Government of Uttarakhand will be the new Governor of Maharashtra.
Bhagat Singh Koshyari joined the first Nityananda Swami government of Uttarakhand as Energy Minister. On November 9, 2000, Uttarakhand became the 27th state of the country. First Chief Minister Nityanand Swami was Chief Minister for only 10 months. After a controversy within the party, in October 2001, the BJP high command entrusted Koshiyari as the successor to Swami as chief minister. Koshyari got only five months as chief minister as the Congress came to power by defeating the BJP in the 2002 assembly elections.
Koshiyari was the chief ministerial candidate in the 2007 elections as well, but then the BJP preferred Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Koshyari then became the Rajya Sabha member after the head of the state union. In 2014 Koshyari became a Lok Sabha member from Nainital seat. He then refused to re-contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
