Uttarakhand electricity rates: public hearing to be held, suggestions invited on the proposal till 31st Jan

UPCL has proposed to increase electricity rates, which will increase the burden of expensive electricity on 27 lakh electricity consumers. There will be a public hearing regarding this across the state. You can also give your suggestions on the proposal to increase electricity rates in the state by 31 January, 2024. Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has made this proposal public and has sought these suggestions. The Commission will hold a meeting with all the stakeholders as well as hold a public hearing on this. On this basis, electricity rates will be decided, which will be applicable from April 1, 2024.

UPCL has demanded to increase the electricity rates of all consumers including BPL. In the proposal given by UPCL at present, 27 percent has been made the basis for increase in electricity rates. Under this, there will be no increase in fixed charges from BPL consumers.

Proposals have been received from domestic consumers to increase the price from Rs 60 per kilowatt to Rs 70 per kilowatt, in the non-domestic category also from Rs 80 to Rs 104 for up to 25 kilowatt and from Rs 90 to Rs 117 per kilowatt for those above 25 kilowatt.

It has also been proposed to increase the fixed charges for shop operators etc. Overall, UPCL has proposed rate hike by 20 percent from domestic consumers, 30 percent from non-domestic, 32 percent from government public utility rates, 15 percent from private tube well rates, 28 percent from LT and HT industry, 28 percent from mixed load category, 28 percent from railway traction. 32 percent increase and 21 percent increase from electric vehicle charging stations has been proposed.

According to the information issued by Regulatory Commission Chairman DP Gairola, all consumers and other stakeholders can send their suggestions on this tariff proposal till January 31. Apart from post, suggestions can also be sent to the Regulatory Commission on e-mail [email protected]. Commission Secretary Neeraj Sati said that a public hearing will also be held, the dates of which will be released soon.
