Uttarakhand’s new sports policy to offer host of incentives for medal winning athletes
Sports is set to get a major boost with Uttarakhand’s new sports policy. The players of Uttarakhand will be given Rs 2 crore for winning the gold medal in the Olympics along with appointment to the post of Group B with 5400 grade pay. Along with this, 1.5 crore will be given to the silver medalist, one crore to the bronze medalist and 50 lakh to the Olympic participant. Appointment will be given to the post of 5400 grade pay in the same Group B of all the medal winners. Similarly, arrangements have been made to appoint the medal winners of World Championships to National Games in cash amount and Grade Pay up to Rs. 2000 in Group C.
According to the decision taken in the cabinet, an action plan will be prepared on the basis of five years, 10 years and 15 years to enhance the talent of the players. Sports training camps will be organized at village level to identify young talents. Players participating in big competitions will be given high level training. For the development of sports, grounds will be made for minimum five sports disciplines in the colleges. Along with this, Inter State Sports Exchange Programs will be organized.
Under the Chief Minister Udyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana, 3900 boys and girls will be given an amount of 1500 rupees per month. Under the Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana, talented sportspersons in the age group of 14 to 23 years will be given scholarships, sports kits, track suits and sports equipment at the district level. Two thousand rupees scholarship will be given every month to 100 players of every district.
To promote sports facilities, they will be given financial assistance on developing sports facilities by the private sector. The prize money of medal winning players will be increased by 30 to 50 percent every year. In case of injury to the players, accident insurance or financial assistance will be provided.
Free travel and allowance to players
The state government has also decided to provide travel facility to the players to participate in the competitions. The facility of AC-3 and sleeper coaches in national level competitions and economy class tickets will be given for participating in international competitions. Along with this, daily allowance of two thousand rupees will be given for other expenditure. The facility of free travel in State Transport Corporation buses will also be given to the international and national level players of the state to participate in competitions and training camps.
