Sunil Chhetri announced calls it time on International Football career

Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has suddenly announced his retirement from international football. Sunil Chhetri, one of India’s greatest footballers, announced his retirement by releasing a video on his social media account on the morning of Thursday 16th May. Sunil Chhetri will now play the last match of his international football career against Kuwait on 6th June.

39-year-old Sunil Chhetri has decided to end his 19-year-long career, which has given a big shock to his fans. Sunil Chhetri started his international football career on 12 June 2005 against Pakistan. Sunil Chhetri also scored the first goal of his international football career in his debut match against Pakistan.

Scored 94 goals in 150 matches

Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has so far played 150 matches for India in his 19-year career in which he has scored 94 goals. However, even after retiring from international football, Sunil Chhetri will continue to play for his club Bengaluru FC. Sunil Chhetri was honored with the Arjuna Award in the year 2011 and the Padma Shri Award in the year 2019. Apart from this, Sunil Chhetri has won the AIFF Player of the Year award 6 times in his career.

Indian captain Sunil Chhetri, while sharing a video on social media, said, ‘The match against Kuwait will be the last.’ India is currently second in Group ‘A’ with four points after top-ranking Qatar. Chhetri played his 150th match for India against Afghanistan in Guwahati in March. He also scored a goal in that match. However, India lost that match 1-2.
