Magnus Carlsen defeats Vishwanathan Anand in Legends of Chess tournament

Viswanathan Anand of India lost in the second round against world number one player Magnus Carlsen, his second consecutive defeat in the $ 150,000 prize money Chase 24 Legends of Chase online tournament. Former World Champion Anand held Norway’s  Carlsen on par in the first 3 games of the Best of Four match on Wednesday but lost the final by 1.5-2.5.

Indian veteran Anand is taking part in this Magnus Carlsoen Chess Tour for the first time. Anand suffered a similar defeat against Peter Svidler of Russia in the first round with a loss in the final game. He will take on another former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik in the third round.

After 2 rounds, Carlson, Israeli veteran Boris Gelfend and Svidler are jointly on top with 6 points from two wins each. Anish Giri opened the account with a win over Vladimir Kramnik while world number three Ding Liren continued to perform poorly and lost to Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi.
