Uttarakhand ranked 9th in terms of unemployment in India

The unemployment rate in Uttarakhand has come down in the last one month. The state’s unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent in September, compared to 22.3 percent in the same month last year. Uttarakhand ranks ninth in the country in terms of unemployment rate. This has been revealed in the survey of Center for Monitoring Indian Economy Pvt Ltd (CMIE).

According to the online data of the survey, unemployment in 17 states including neighboring Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Punjab, Haryana is more than Uttarakhand. In Uttarakhand, there has been a decline of 2.1 percent in the unemployment rate in the month of September as compared to the previous month.

The effect of a boom in economic activity

The boom in economic activity after the second wave of Covid has almost subsided is considered to be a major reason for the decline in the unemployment rate. According to experts, the state has been completely unlocked during the last two months. The easing of restrictions on entry of people from outside states, operation of inter-state transport and opening up of commercial activities have opened up opportunities for livelihood and employment.

Unemployment big issue in election year

Unemployment is a big political issue in an election year. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have tried to corner the ruling BJP on this unemployment issue.

While the Aam Aadmi Party is running an employment guarantee campaign, the Congress has also talked about giving unemployment allowance if the government is formed. The Dhami government is also under pressure on the issue of employment and to overcome this pressure, it is scrambling to recruit more than 22 thousand posts in government departments and create new opportunities for self-employment.

Unemployment rate was more than 22 percent in September 2020

During the Corona period, the unemployment rate of Uttarakhand in September 2020 was the highest in the last eight months at 22.3%. The unemployment rate in 2020 was only one per cent lower than in January 2021. The unemployment rate rose to 22.3 percent in September 2020.
