Only Prime Minister, President and CJI photos allowed in government ads: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday banned the government from using photos of any politicians other than the President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India in print ads.
Even the pictures of these three personalities should be used only with their approval, the apex court said.

The court also allowed the use of pictures of late leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, reports said.

A bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi rejected the plea of the central government that judiciary should not tread into the territory of policy decisions and said that the courts can step in if there is no policy or law in place.
