In the cabinet of June 25, the state government had decided to start the Chardham Yatra in a limited way for three districts of the state, but today the High Court stayed the decision of the Uttarakhand cabinet to start the Chardham Yatra from July 1. A division bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma, hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocates Dushyant Mainali, Satchidanand Dabral, Anu Pant, regarding the risk of possible infection due to poor health system and incomplete preparations for Chardham Yatra during the Covid period. gave these instructions. In the virtual hearing, state Chief Secretary Om Prakash along with other senior officers appeared before the court.
The SOP issued by the government regarding the Chardham Yatra was presented along with the affidavit in the court. The court said that in this SOP, the deployment of police in Haridwar district has been mentioned, which is showing the seriousness of the government regarding the yatra.
The court refused to accept the SOP as a copy of the SOP of Haridwar Mahakumbh. On the plea of the government regarding the opposition of the priests and priests, the court said that it has full care of public health including religious sentiments.
