The state cabinet had decided to open the Chardham Yatra for the people of the respective districts. From July 1, people of Chamoli district were able to visit Badrinath Dham, people of Rudraprayag Kedarnath and people of Uttarkashi district to visit Gangotri, Yamunotri.

Even in the first wave of Corona last year, the government started the Chardham Yatra from July 1. This time too, due to slowing down of the second wave of Corona, the government had just approved to start Chardham Yatra for the people of Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts.

In the cabinet of June 25, the state government had decided to start the Chardham Yatra in a limited way for three districts of the state, but today the High Court stayed the decision of the Uttarakhand cabinet to start the Chardham Yatra from July 1. Along with this, the court also directed for live telecast of the worship to be done in the four dhams.

A division bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma, hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocates Dushyant Mainali, Satchidanand Dabral, Anu Pant, regarding the risk of possible infection due to poor health system and incomplete preparations for Chardham Yatra during the Covid period. gave these instructions. In the virtual hearing, state Chief Secretary Om Prakash along with other senior officers appeared before the court.

The SOP issued by the government regarding the Chardham Yatra was presented along with the affidavit in the court. The court said that in this SOP, the deployment of police in Haridwar district has been mentioned, which is showing the seriousness of the government regarding the yatra.

The court refused to accept the SOP as a copy of the SOP of Haridwar Mahakumbh. On the plea of ​​​​the government regarding the opposition of the priests and priests, the court said that it has full care of public health including religious sentiments.
