Lockdown extension necessary to prevent corona spread says CM Rawat

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Friday that he believes the countrywide lockdown period should be extended to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Rawat said that cases of corona infection are increasing. Although in Uttarakhand we have been able to curb this to some extent, some of our states have been badly affected by it. So I don’t think it’s time to end the lockdown.

He said that many enlightened people are constantly suggesting that the lockdown period should be extended so that we can break the chain of Covid 19 spread.  Rawat said that the pandemic in Uttarakhand is still in the first phase where so far a total of 35 people have been found corona infected and these include those who have either traveled abroad or are associated with the Tablighi Jamaat from outside the state.

Rawat said that fortunately, not a single corona case has been confirmed yet from our hill districts. In Almora, the corona-infected person was a member of the Jamaat, and the person who was found positive of the disease in Pauri had returned from a trip to Spain. Referring to the sudden increase in the recent corona cases in Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister said that the situation has now improved after sealing half a dozen villages and mohallas in Dehradun and Haridwar districts where the Jamaatis took refuge in these places.

He said that after declaring to file a case of attempt to murder against the Jamaatis for endangering the lives of themselves and others by hiding their travel details, they themselves have started coming before the authorities. The Chief Minister said that 110 cases are being investigated regularly every day in the two medical laboratories at the Government Medical College and Hospital in AIIMS Rishikesh and Haldwani. He said that efforts are also being made to add more hospitals to increase the number of testing laboratories in the state.
