New Laxman Jhula to be build in Rishikesh before Kumbh 2021

Foundations of Rishikesh’s iconic 90-year-old Lakshman Jhula bridge have weakened. Given this, the government has stopped the traffic on the bridge. Looking at the opposition, the CM issued instructions and said about building a new Laxman Jhula bridge. Government officials have also gathered in this preparation.

Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that a new bridge will be built in Rishikesh. Officers have been instructed to prepare the DPR. The new bridge will be built in parallel to this bridge or will be made somewhere else, it will be decided by negotiating with the authorities now. But this bridge will be ready before the Kumbh in Haridwar in 2021.

At the same time, in a conversation with Yamkeshwar MLA Ritu Khanduri, the CM said that the alternative for this bridge will be prepared soon. It has been decided to create an alternative bridge for this.

The Chief Minister said that six months ago IIT Roorkee experts were asked to study the feasibility of Lakshman Jhula. According to the reports from them, the condition of the bridge is not such that more movement can be done on it. Specially, four wheel or two-wheeler vehicles can be allowed. Given the huge crowd at the Kanwar Mela, it is not appropriate to continue the movement on the Laxman Jhula.

This decision has been taken for public safety concerns. Therefore, it has been decided to stop the movement of two wheel vehicles immediately on the bridge. Along with this the authorities have been directed to prepare the alternative option as soon as possible.

The Chief Minister said that Laxman Jhula is a cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. This is the identity of Rishikesh and one of the main attraction in the country and abroad.
