Schools in Dehradun to remain closed on 23 Jan due to cold weather

Seeing the cold wave which has gripped Uttarakhand with more rain and snow expected throughout the week, DM Dehradun SA Murugesan has issued orders to declare holiday in public and private schools in Dehradun district on January 23. The DM had also declared a holiday on Jan 22 after the weather forecast. Schools in Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Chamoli were also closed on account of bad weather. DM Haridwar, DM Chamoli, DM Rudraprayag, DM Tehri too have followed suite and declared holiday in schools from Class I to class XII on 23rd January.

MeT department gets correct prediction

Earlier the Meteorological department had predicted heavy snowfall in the hills and rain and hail in the plains from January 22. The weather started changing from yesterday itself and it rained almost throughout the day in Doon valley. The hill station of Mussoorie received the season’s first snowfall. The MeT department has predicted more rain and snow throughout Uttarakhand this week due to ongoing Western disturbance.

No sooner than the news of snowfall broke out, tourists from NCR as well as locals thronging to visit the hill town. However as has been the case in the past tourists had to wait long hours stuck in traffic jam before entering Mussoorie. As per some reports more than 700 vehicles were stuck in a traffic jam leading up to Mussoorie.
