Deepak Punia wins gold for India at Jr World Wrestling Championships

India’s wrestler Deepak Punia has won the gold medal in the Junior World Championship on Wednesday. Deepak has created history by winning this title by defeating Russia’s Alik Shebzukhov in the 86 kg category. He became the first player to win gold for India in the Junior World Wrestling Championship after 18 years.

On the other hand, Vicky Chahar has won bronze medal in 92 kg category. He won the Bronze Medal by defeating Batmagnai Eenkhtuvshin of Mongolia.

Deepak, 19, has also made a place in the Indian team for the Senior World Wrestling Championship to be held in Kazakhstan. He will represent India in the 86 kg category in the tournament to be held from September 14 to 11. Deepak won the silver medal in the Junior World Championships last year.
