Pranoy Roy beats Lin Dan in second round of BWF World Championships 2019

India’s HS Prannoy made a big upset at the BWF Badminton World Championships on Tuesday. He defeated two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion Lin Dan of China in his second match. Earlier in the championship, Sameer Verma of India had to suffer an upset in the first round. Sameer was defeated by Kean Yeoh Loh of Singapore.

In the world ranking, number 30 player Prannoy defeated world number 17 Dan 21-11 13-21 21-7. Prannoy won this match in one hour and two minutes. With this victory, Prannoy has made his career head to head 3–2 against Dan.

The Indian player made a strong start in the match and kept his grip from the very first game. Prannoy took an 8-3 lead and then a 12-5 lead. He then took the first game 21-11 after taking a 16-9 lead.

Lin Dan however made a good comeback in the second game. Once the score was tied at 5-5, Dan first took 10-7 and then led 14-9. After this, the Chinese player made the match exciting by winning the second game 21–13 after taking a 17–11 lead.

In the third game, Prannoy first took a 4–1 lead and then he made it 10–5 at one time. After this, the Indian player took a consistent lead of 19–7, taking consecutive points and then won the game and the match from 21–7.
