USTA considering organizing US Open in empty stadiums

The US Open Tennis Tournament (US Open) is being considered for a limited number of spectators or without spectators. It was informed in the local media on Saturday. The US Open is scheduled to be held according to its schedule, but the American Tennis Association (USTA) has said that this year the US Open is likely to be held with limited or no spectators.

USTA Chief Communications Officer Chris Widmaier said, “The USTA will continue to look at many different aspects of the 2020 US Open. Our main goal is to organize the US Open in New York according to the schedule. Therefore, we are discussing many aspects. These include a limited number of viewers and also the possibility of non-viewers.”

The US Open is scheduled to be held from August 24 to September 13. Widmaier said that it is to be decided in mid-June how the tournament will be organized. All the international tennis tournaments including ATP, WTA have been postponed since March due to Coronavirus pandemic. The French Open has been postponed until September while Wimbledon has been canceled for the first time since 1945.
