Valley bridge breaks in Pithoragarh

In Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, the Valley Bridge on Munsiyari-Milam road broke on Monday. The accident occurred when a truck carrying an excavator machine was passing over the bridge. With the breaking of this bridge, more than 15 villages in the border have lost road connectivity with the rest of the world.

On Monday morning, around 9 o’clock, a truck was carrying a Pokeland machine on the Munsari-Milamfor road construction. The Valley Bridge could not bear the weight of these machines and fell down. Operators of both the machines were injured in the accident. Both are undergoing treatment at CHC Munsiyari.

Due to breaking of bridge, people of 15 villages have increased problem

In 2009, the BRO built the Valley Bridge to connect the high Himalayan regions with road connectivity. Due to the breakdown of the Valley Bridge, the road connectivity of more than 15 villages located in the High Himalayan region was completely cut. These villages are isolated.

Overloading lead to bridge collapse

The Valley Bridge had a capacity of just 18 tonnes. Despite this, a Pokeland laden truck of more weight was put on it. The result was that the bridge broke midway. BRO officials are refraining from saying anything in this entire development. This Valley Bridge, built in the year 2009, was repaired a month ago. The bridge had an important role to play in the Munsiyari-Milam road construction. Through this bridge, BRO delivers the material of road construction to Milam. The truck, which arrived with a Pokeland machine on Monday morning, was reported to have weighed 26 tons. The result was that the bridge could not bear the weight of the heavy machinery and collapsed. The breakdown of Valley Bridge has increased the difficulty of the BRO and Munsiyari-Milam road construction company. The construction of the road had to be stopped for more than three months due to the lockdown caused by Corona. The road construction work was expected to gain momentum once the lockdown was exempted. The BRO has to construct 58 km of road from Munsiyari to Milam. So far, 37 km of road has been cut. 21 km of road is still to be built. The breakdown of the bridge has made it difficult for the BRO to carry forward machinery including construction materials.
