Uttarakhand ranks fifth among top states in Energy and Climate Index, Gujarat ranks first

Uttarakhand ranks fifth in the energy and climate index of the major states of the country. On the basis of six parameters of the index and 27 indicators, in the first phase ranking released by NITI Aayog, Gujarat is ranked first, Kerala second and Punjab third. In the ranking of 20 major states, Madhya Pradesh has been ranked 19th and Chhattisgarh 20th.

Dr. Rakesh Sarwal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power shared the main findings of the report in a program chaired by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog in New Delhi. According to the report, Uttarakhand has 48.7 marks in the parameter of environmental sustainability. Only close to it is Kerala with 46.9 points.
According to the report, the performance of Uttarakhand in terms of innovation in the energy sector has been much better than other big states. Uttarakhand topped the ranking with 14.7 marks as compared to Gujarat’s 5.5 marks. The 27 indicators included for the index include power reforms, its sustainable supply, improvement, line losses, regulatory assets, complexity of tariffs, fuel for cooking, subsidies, availability of smart meters, forest cover etc.
