Market ends in green in first trading day of 2023, Nifty closes around 18200

The first trading session of 2023 was profitable for investors. The market started almost flat, but gained momentum during the day and maintained it till the end of the session. The BSE Sensex closed at 61,167.79, up 327.05 points or 0.54 per cent, and the Nifty closed at 18,197.45, up 92.15 points or 0.51 per cent.

Overall, except for Pharma, Consumer Durable and Healthcare, almost all the indices closed with gains. Buying was seen in Metal, IT, Media and FMGC indices.

Tata Steel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, M&M, NTPC, Reliance, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, UltraTech, HDFC, Power Grid, IndusInd Bank, ITC, L&T, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Wipro, HCL Tech, HDFC Bank, TCS, Bajaj Finance and Maruti Suzuki were among the gainers. Whereas, Asian Paint, Titan, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, Nestle, HUL and SBI were among the losers.

Rupee weakens by 14 paise

The rupee declined by 14 paise to close at 82.75 against the dollar. The rupee was trading weak against the dollar since this morning. The rupee opened lower by 5 paise at 82.66 and further declined during the day. In the previous session, the rupee had declined 15 paise to close at 82.72 against the dollar.
