Rain-hail and snowfall in high altitude areas of Uttarakhand, storm in the plains

The weather changed in Uttarakhand on Monday afternoon. There was torrential rain in Chamoli district and Yamunotri. At the same time, the temperature decreased due to rain-hail and snowfall in the high altitude areas. Heavy hail accompanied by rain in Mussoorie disrupted normal life. On the other hand, there was a dust storm in the plains.

Orange alert of rain in six districts

Earlier the meteorological department had forecast rain and hailstorm in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand today (Monday). Whereas, there may be rain and thundershowers at a few places over the plains.

According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain may occur in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora and Pithoragarh. Apart from this, gusty winds can blow at a speed of 70 km with strong thunder in these areas.

The weather kept changing throughout the day on Tuesday in the district headquarters and surrounding areas in Almora. In the afternoon the whole sky was covered with clouds. It rained accompanied by thunder and lightning, while there was also hailstorm for some time. This resulted in a drop in temperature.

Yellow alert issued till June 1

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in the hilly areas from May 29 to June 1.
