Asian Games 2023: Indian contingent win record haul of 15 medals in a single day

It was super Sunday for team India, on the eighth day of the Asian Games, India completed half a century of medals. The Indian contingent won 15 medals today. Earlier, India got five medals on the first day of the Asian Games, six on the second day, three on the third day, eight on the fourth day, three on the fifth day, eight on the sixth day and five on the seventh day.

This was also the highest number of medals won by India in a single day bettering its 13 year old record. Earlier in 2010, India had won 11 medals in one day.

Gold for Avinash, Tajinder

Avinash Sable won the gold medal in men’s 3000 meter steeplechase. He clocked 8:19:53 minutes. This was India’s 12th gold medal in this competition.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor performed brilliantly in men’s shot put and won the gold medal. He has been successful in winning gold in the second consecutive Asian Games. Tajinder also won first place in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

Another gold in shooting

Earlier in the day, India won the gold medal in men’s trap team. Kynan Chenai, Zorawar Singh and Prithviraj Tondaiman scored 361 and won the gold medal, far ahead of Kuwait and China. This is the highest score by a team in trap shooting at the Asian Games. Keenan later went on to win bronze in the men’s individual finalĀ  event.

Aditi Ashok won silver

Today the country has got its first medal in golf. Aditi Ashok won the silver medal, thus becoming the first female golfer from India to achieve the feat at Asian Games. Aditi who had a seven stroke lead at the start of the day, fell behind by two strokes at the end of the match and narrowly the gold medal.
