Kumari Justice Ritu Bahri appointed as new Chief Justice of Uttarakhand HC

Kumari Justice Ritu Bahri, senior judge of Punjab-Haryana High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court. After the approval of the President, notification has been issued appointing her as Chief Justice. It may be noted that the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ritu Bahri to be made the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.

Justice Ritu Bahri was the first woman acting Chief Justice of the Punjab-Haryana High Court. She took charge of Acting Chief Justice on 14 October 2023. Born in 1962 in Jalandhar, Punjab, she obtained a law degree from Punjab University in 1985.

Started practicing law in Punjab-Haryana High Court in 1986 and after that served in Haryana Advocate General Office. On August 16, 2010, she was appointed judge of the Punjab-Haryana High Court. Presently she is the second senior most judge of Punjab-Haryana High Court.
