Divya Deshmukh wins the Women’s Chess World Cup 2025

19-year-old Divya Deshmukh has won the FIDE Women’s World Cup of Chess 2025. She won the title by defeating Koneru Humpy of India in the tie-break round in the final. Along with becoming the world champion, she also became India’s 88th Grandmaster.
Divya defeated many top ranked players in the tournament and made it to the final. Divya drew both the major matches in the final against Humpy. After which the tie-break round was held on Monday, in which Divya won with a score of 2.5-1.5.
After the match, Humpy said that after the 12th move she did not understand what to do next. However, in the 54th move, Divya gained the necessary lead. After which Humpy resigned and Divya won.
Qualified for Women’s Candidates
Along with becoming the world champion, Divya also qualified for next year’s Women’s Candidates Tournament. She became only the second Indian to qualify for the tournament. Koneru Humpy also qualified for the Candidates Tournament by reaching the final.
