Schools in Chamoli and Uttarkashi district to remain closed on August 7

These days torrential rains are being seen in all districts across Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Center has issued an alert of heavy rain in many districts of the state for Thursday, 7 August. In view of the warning issued by the Meteorological Center, the administration has ordered to close all public, private schools and Anganwadi centers in Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts of the state on August 7, 2025.

The order of Uttarkashi administration stated that, ‘According to the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun on 06.08.2025, heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall (red alert) at some places in the district on 06.08.2025 and lightning/heavy spells of rain with thunder at some places on 07.08.2025 have been predicted. Due to rain in the district, the water level of rivers and streams is rising and footpaths and roads are affected, along with cloudburst, landslides and from the point of view of mitigation and management of possible disasters in some areas, it is necessary to take necessary measures for the safety of school students.

Therefore, keeping the above in mind, using the powers conferred by Section 22 (H) of the Disaster Management Act-2005, holiday is declared on 07 August, 2025 (Thursday) in all government, non-government, private schools (classes 1 to 12) and Anganwadi centers operating in the district.’

Similarly, in view of the heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chamoli district, holiday has been declared on Thursday, 7th August, 2025 in all the schools and Anganwadi centres from class 1 to 12 in the district.
