Major changes in Uttarakhand UCC, Aadhaar requirement for live-in registration abolished

The state government in Uttarakhand has made several amendments to the Uniform Civil Code after implementing it. Two months ago, the state government received information that people living in the state from outside might face difficulties in registering for live-in relationships. Following this, the decision was brought to the cabinet and amended. Now, the Aadhaar card requirement for live-in registration under the UCC has been completely removed.
The BJP government had previously enacted strict rules regarding identity cards, clearly stating that Aadhaar card registration would be mandatory for live-in relationships. This requirement has now been removed. Instead, passport, voter ID card, ration card, PAN card, or driving license can be used for registration. It is reported that several more changes are being made to the online website during registration. This is the fourth amendment by the state government regarding this registration process. Various amendments have been made to the Uniform Civil Code before.
Even two months ago, people from outside, such as Bhutan, Nepal, and other states or countries, were living here. They were facing the problem of not being able to register due to lack of Aadhaar card. Therefore, by removing this requirement, the government has made registration even easier.
Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli believes that the amendments being made to the Uniform Civil Code are not only beneficial for the people but also extremely important for the state. He stated that the Registrar General will verify the registration within 30 days. Only after that will the registration be certified.
