Stock market update: Sensex sheds over 540 points

On Thursday (July 24), the fourth trading day of the week, the Sensex fell 542 points to close at 82,184. While Nifty fell 158 points, closing at 25,062.
Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 5 rose and 25 fell. Shares of Trent, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finserv fell up to 4%. Zomato, Tata Motors and Sun Pharma rose up to 3.5%.
Out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 16 rose and 34 fell. NSE’s Nifty IT index fell 2.21%, FMCG 1.12% and Realty 1.04%. Metal, pharma and public sector banks index rose up to 1.2%.
Global market rises
In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei is trading 1.59% up at 41,826 and Korea’s Kospi was trading 0.21% up at 3,190.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index traded 0.51% up at 25,667 and China’s Shanghai Composite was trading 0.65% up at 3,606.
On July 23, America’s Dow Jones closed 1.14% up at 45,010. Meanwhile, Nasdaq Composite closed 0.61% up at 21,020 and S&P 500 closed 0.78% up at 6,359.
Yesterday, the Sensex closed at 82,727, up 540 points
On Wednesday (July 23), the third trading day of the week, the Sensex closed at 82,727, up 540 points. Nifty gained 159 points, closing at 25,220.
Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 22 rose and 8 fell. Shares of Tata Motors, Airtel and Bajaj Finance rose up to 2.55%. Shares of HUL, Infosys and UltraTech Cement closed down.
Out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 39 rose and 11 fell. NSE’s Nifty Metal, Auto, Banking, Financial Services and Pharma indices closed higher. The Realty index fell by about 3%.
