Stock markets ends in green after opening in red

On Friday, November 14, the Indian stock market index, the Sensex, rose 84.11 points to close at 84,562.78. The Nifty gained 30.90 points to close at 25,910.05. Meanwhile, the rupee fell 3 paise against the US dollar to close at 88.73.

Indian stock markets recovered from initial losses and closed with gains on Friday, driven by the resounding victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Bihar elections. Key indices remained volatile throughout the session as vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections continued.

The Sensex closed at 84,562.78, up 84.11 points, or 0.10 percent. Amid cautious sentiment ahead of the Bihar election results, the stock market opened trading at 84,060.14, down more than 400 points from the previous day’s close of 84,478.67.

However, the index recovered over 550 points from the day’s low to close in the green. Nifty closed at 25,910.05, up 30.90 points or 0.12 percent.

Tata Motors, Eternal, Axis Bank, BEL, Trent, SBI, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, Adani Airports, Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, ITC, and NTPC were the top gainers in the Sensex basket.

Shares of Infosys, Tata Steel, Tata Motors PV, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and Tech Mahindra closed with losses.

Sectoral indices were mixed, with selling in the IT and auto sectors and buying in FMCG, banking, and finance stocks. Nifty Bank rose 135 points or 0.23 percent. Nifty Financial Services gained 95 points or 0.35 percent, and Nifty FMCG closed 317 points or 0.57 percent higher.

Nifty IT slipped 378 points or 1.03 percent and Nifty Auto fell 143 points or 0.52 percent.
