Adi Badri Temple doors open for devotees on Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is being celebrated in Uttarakhand today (January 14). On this auspicious occasion, the doors of the Adi Badri temple in Chamoli district have been opened for devotees. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, in the Brahma Muhurta (auspicious time before sunrise), priest Chakradhar Prasad Thapliyal performed the consecration ceremony at the opening of the temple gates. Following this, offerings were made to Lord Narayan, and after the Panch Jwala Aarti (five-flame ritual), the process of darshan (seeing the deity) began in the temple. On this occasion, a seven-day Mahabhishek ceremony has also commenced in the temple premises. Adi Badri is considered the first of the Panch Badri (five Badri temples). A large number of devotees have arrived at the Adi Badri temple to offer prayers on the opening of the temple gates on Makar Sankranti.

Adi Badri Temple Gates Open on Makar Sankranti

The Adi Badri temple has been decorated with two quintals of flowers on Makar Sankranti. The gates of the Adi Badri temple remain closed for one month of the year, during the month of Paush. On Makar Sankranti, the gates are reopened for devotees. Jagdish Prasad Bahuguna, the president of the Adi Badri Dham Temple Committee, said that the gates of the Adi Badri temple were opened for devotees at 4 AM on Wednesday morning during the Brahma Muhurta. He said that the temple has been decorated with 2 quintals of flowers. During the Brahma Muhurta, Lord Badri Narayan was bathed and offered bhog (food offering). After this, the temple gates were opened for devotees to offer prayers.

Cultural Programs to be Held for 3 Days

On this occasion, cultural programs were also presented by women’s groups and school students. A Shrimad Bhagwat Katha (recitation of the Bhagavad Gita) is also being organized. Jagdish Prasad Bahuguna said that cultural programs will be held for 3 days from the opening of the gates. The Shrimad Bhagwat Katha will be recited until the 20th of the month.

Adi Badri Temple is Dedicated to Lord Narayan

The Adi Badri temple is dedicated to Lord Narayan, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Adi Badri is considered the first abode of Lord Vishnu. Adi Badri is worshipped before Badrinath. According to tradition, it is considered essential to visit Adi Badri before visiting Badrinath Dham. Only then is the pilgrimage to Badrinath considered successful.
