Alternative route over Jakhan river also damaged due to rain

The damage due to rains in Uttarakhand is showing no signs of stoppage. In the hilly districts, the mountains are crumbling due to landslides. Hundreds of roads are closed. Meanwhile, a worrying news has come from Rishikesh. Where due to the spate in the Jakhan river, the alternate route built over the Jakhan river at Ranipokhari between Rishikesh-Dehradun got washed away in the river. There is a flood like situation in the surrounding areas. People are facing problems in movement due to the alternate route being washed away. Ranipokhari is the same place where the bridge over the river was broken on August 27. Then the Public Works Department had started an alternate route here for the movement of people. The movement on the alternate route had started from Sunday, but the Jakhan river surge washed away this route as well.

At present there is only road connectivity between Rishikesh and Dehradun via Nepali Farm and Bhaniyawala. It was reported that about 300 meters of the alternate route was built over the river. In which almost the entire alternate route has been washed away in the flood from the upper area of the river. Due to the rain in the hilly areas, the Jakhan river suddenly got flooded. On receiving the information, the team was sent to the spot. Department employees and policemen present on the spot are returning the drivers from near the Ranipokhari barrier.
