Heavy rain alert in Dehradun, schools in the district to remain closed on August 5

The weather has once again worsened the situation in the capital Dehradun. The Meteorological Department Dehradun and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have issued an orange alert for Tuesday, August 5 with a warning of heavy to very heavy rain, strong thunder and lightning. In view of the severity of the weather, the district administration has declared a holiday in all schools and Anganwadi centers.
According to the order issued, all government, non-government and private schools and Anganwadi centers operating from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun district will remain closed on August 5, 2025. This decision has been taken giving priority to disaster reduction and safety of children.

The district administration says that at present, moderate to heavy rains are continuing in various parts of the district, due to which the risk of landslides and flash floods in the hilly areas has increased. In such a situation, it has become necessary to close the schools and Anganwadi centers so that any kind of untoward incident can be avoided.
