Temperature crosses 40 degrees for 9th consecutive day in Doon

The outbreak of severe heat continues in the plains of Uttarakhand including Dehradun. Amidst dry weather, the temperature of Doon was recorded above 40 degree Celsius for the ninth consecutive day on Sunday. These days, the mercury of Doon is being recorded the highest in the last 122 years. Along with this, the heat waves in the afternoon is adding to the woes of the people.

The heat has also increased in the mountainous areas. The maximum temperature is being recorded six to nine degrees Celsius higher than normal. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of the outbreak of heat in the plains for the next two days, an orange alert has been issued regarding heat wave in Dehradun and other plain areas. From Tuesday evening, there may be thundershowers in some places in the mountainous areas.

The weather has remained dry in most areas of Uttarakhand for the last two weeks. Due to bright sunshine, the scorching heat and heat waves are making people miserable. Sweltering heat is felt in most of the plains including Dehradun. The maximum temperature remains above 42 degrees Celsius. After reaching an all-time high in May, Doon’s maximum temperature has broken records in June as well.

On Tuesday, Doon’s maximum temperature was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius, which is the highest in 122 years. Whereas, the all-time record is 43.9 degrees Celsius in the year 1902. The maximum temperature in Doon has remained above 42 degrees Celsius for the last four days. At the same time, the minimum temperature is also four to five degrees Celsius higher than normal. Apart from this, the mercury has also remained at the highest level in Roorkee, Kotdwar, Rishikesh, Rudrapur, Pantnagar etc.

According to Bikram Singh, Director of Meteorological Center, the weather is expected to remain dry in the plains of Uttarakhand for the time being. Light rain may occur at high altitudes in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. There is a possibility of gusty winds and lightning in the surrounding low-lying areas. An alert has been issued regarding heat wave in the plains. There is a possibility of light showers in Doon on Wednesday.
