AAP MLA meet approves Atishi as next Delhi CM

Atishi is slated to be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She will take charge of the Delhi government in place of Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal himself had proposed Atishi’s name for the post of Chief Minister. Atishi has been elected the leader of the legislative party. All the MLAs accepted this proposal. Sources say that there will be no deputy CM in the Delhi government. Atishi will take oath as Chief Minister during the special session of the Assembly. The special session of the Assembly will be held from 26 to 27 September. Atishi is going to become the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi. She has been a prominent minister in the Arvind Kejriwal cabinet. Her name was at the forefront ever since Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision of stepping down from the CM’s post.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, a meeting of the legislative party was called at the Civil Lines residence of AAP convenor Kejriwal. In this, the new leader of the house was unanimously elected. Atishi is a graduate from Oxford University.

Atishi was elected MLA for the first time in the 2020 assembly elections and became a minister in the Kejriwal government for the first time in 2023. Now, just a year later, in 2024, she is going to become the Chief Minister. Earlier, she contested from the East Lok Sabha seat in 2019 and lost to BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir by 4.77 lakh votes and came third.
