The action on the old diesel vehicle is to start from the beginning of the new year. The Delhi government will cancel the registration of all diesel vehicles that are 10 years old with effect from January 1, 2022. The government will issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) for these vehicles so that they can be re-registered at other places. This step of the government is being taken due to the instructions of the National Green Authority (NGT).

According to an order issued by the Delhi Transport Department earlier this week, no NOC will be issued for diesel vehicles which are 15 years or more old. The NGT had in July 2016 issued directions to ban registration and plying of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi-NCR.

38 lakh used vehicles in Delhi-NCR

There are about 38 lakh old vehicles in Delhi. These vehicles cannot be driven on the roads of Delhi following the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court. The NGT has completely banned diesel cars of 10 years or older and petrol vehicles of 15 years or older in the capital. In such a situation, the Delhi government has opened a new option of electric in front of these vehicle owners.
