NTA holds press conference over NEET UG results 2024 allegations

NTA has been surrounded by controversies ever since the result of NEET UG exam was declared. Allegations of irregularities in the result are being made from all over the country, for which a press conference was organized today. This press conference was organized at the National Medical Commission (NMC) New Delhi office.

Committee formed for investigation

It was said in the press conference that ‘the matter of irregularities being reported is limited to only 6 centers and 1600 candidates. We had reviewed by forming an expert committee. Again a new upper level committee has been formed, which will review the report of the earlier committee (Grievance Redressal Committee).’

It was said in the press conference that ‘A committee has been formed comprising the former chairman of UPSC and other educationists, which will investigate the NEET case. The committee will submit its report within a week. A decision will be taken after that.’

Only 50% candidates passed with grace marks

The Education Secretary said that ‘1563 candidates got grace marks in NEET. Out of these, 790 candidates have qualified with grace marks. The rest of the marks either remained in negative or they could not pass. This has made no difference overall. Grace marks vary. Based on answering efficiency etc.’

How come there are 6 toppers from one center?

Responding to the question of 6 toppers from one center, the Education Secretary said, ‘The average marks of that center were 235. That is, there were so many capable students there, who could score high, that is why their average marks were high even without grace marks. But action will be taken against the centers where there has been a mistake.’

Will NEET 2024 be cancelled?

The Education Secretary has said that ‘compensatory marks have been given on the basis of the criteria of Loss of Time. The matter is only about 6 centers and 1600 children. Whatever decision the committee will take, it will be taken for them only. It will not affect others.’ However, the press conference also indicated that if the NEET exam would be held again, it will not be held at all the centers. It will be held only at 6 centers.
