Governor’s Cup Golf tournament begins in Nainital

The 19th Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament has commenced at the Raj Bhavan Golf Course. 121 golfers from across the country will participate in this tournament which will run till June 9. The special thing about this tournament will be that the participants will include children from six years to elderly people of 75 years. This information was given by Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) Gurmeet Singh during the curtain raiser program at the golf course on Thursday.

The Governor informed that seven players from the Super Veteran category (above 75 years), 18 from Veteran (65 to 75 age group), 61 from the general age group, 11 players from the women’s category, 8 (5 boys, 3 girls) from the Junior Golfers (15 to 17 age group), 8 (7 boys, 1 girl) from the Junior Golfers (12 to 15 age group) category and 8 (5 boys, 3 girls) players below 12 years of age are participating in the tournament. He said that the purpose of organizing the tournament is to promote tourism and to ensure maximum participation of women, youth and common people in sports. Efforts have also been made to connect school children with golf. Recently, Inter School Governor Golf Cup was organized, in which many schools participated enthusiastically. He expressed confidence that in the coming years, national and international level players will emerge from Uttarakhand in the field of golf. The Governor also thanked the sponsors who supported the Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament. Captain Colonel Vivek Bhatt of Raj Bhavan Golf Club said that the tournament will be inaugurated by the Governor at 8.30 am on Friday. Secretary to Governor Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Amit Kumar Sirohi, Commissioner Kumaon Deepak Rawat, Additional Secretary Swati S. Bhadoria, DIG Yogendra Rawat, SSP PN Meena, Assistant to Governor Amit Srivastava, Major Sumit Kumar, Finance Controller Dr. Tripti Srivastava, Joint Director Information Dr. Nitin Upadhyay etc. were present on the occassion.
