Sweltering heat in Uttarakhand; temp crosses 42 degrees in Haldwani

The heat in Haldwani city has made the condition of the people miserable. Daily life was effected throughout the day due to the humid heat. On Sunday, the temperature of Haldwani reached 42.2 degrees Celsius during Nautapa period (hottest nine days in Jyeshtha Nakshatra). According to meteorologists, the highest temperature in May was 41.8 degrees about 20 years ago.

Dr. RK Singh, weather expert of Pantnagar Agricultural University, said that the temperature has never been so high in the month of May. About 20 years ago, the highest temperature in May was 41.8 degrees. He told that the maximum heat remains during Nautapa. In other months the temperature does not reach so high. Nautapa period has started from May 25 and will remain in effect till June 2. During this time, the Sun reaches closest to the Earth, due to which the temperature of the Earth starts increasing. Although there will be light rain in the hilly districts, but the heat will remain in the plains.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department, Dehradun has issued a yellow alert regarding light rain and strong winds in the hilly districts for the next five days. Due to the scorching heat there was less traffic on the roads. People came out of their homes with cloth over their faces and heads.

People suffering from heat

Thousands of consumers in rural and urban areas remained troubled on Sunday due to frequent power cuts in Haldwani during summer. During this period, consumers had to face problems in Lalkua and Gaulapar. Due to frequent outages, electronic businessmen along with consumers had to face problems. Electricity Distribution Division Rural said that the supply had been stopped due to minor complaints, which was rectified within some time.
