Heavy rains continue to lash Uttarakhand; over 400 roads closed

Heavy rains which have thrown life out of gear from the mountains to the plains continued in Uttarakhand.

By the second week of July in Dehradun, the eight-year record of highest rainfall in 24 hours has been broken in Dehradun. Dehradun recorded 118.4 mm of rain in 24 hours, 450 percent more than normal. Whereas, in the year 2015, on July 11, 114.7 mm of rain was recorded in 24 hours.

Heavy rains have been recorded in Doon, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Tehri in the last 24 hours. Haridwar received 154.2 mm of rain, 986 percent more than the normal 14.2 mm. At the same time, 450 percent 118.4 mm of rain was recorded in Doon from a normal of 21.5 mm.

Whereas, 61 mm of rain was recorded in Uttarkashi and 53.5 mm in New Tehri. Asharodi area in Dehradun received maximum rainfall. It received 207 mm of rain in 24 hours, while 100 mm of rain was recorded from 5:30 am to 8 am. Because of which water entered the houses here and flood-like conditions were created.

Landslide on Badrinath highway

The Badrinath Highway was blocked at Chhinka at around 6 pm due to heavy debris coming from the hill. Due to which about 7000 pilgrims are stuck here from both sides of the highway. District Disaster Management Officer Nand Kishore Joshi said that after the opening of the highway, the pilgrims will be sent towards their destination. On the other hand, a landslide occurred from the rock over the tunnel in Patalganga.
