Various events are being organized to mark the Uttarakhand Silver Jubilee Year. As part of this initiative, an Ultra Marathon was held today (November 02,2025) at Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh district. Held at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, temperatures plummeted to minus 2 degrees Celsius. Over 800 athletes from across the country and the world participated. A special feature of this marathon was the participation of athletes ranging from 20 to 65 years old.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta inaugurated the Adi Kailash Ultra Marathon. He said that this country’s first high-altitude ultra marathon (at an altitude of 10,300 to 15,000 feet), held on the sacred land of the world-famous Adi Kailash mountain, is not only a symbol of adventure and courage, but also an inspirational campaign that promotes healthy living, youth empowerment, and border development.
The objective of this unique event is to promote Vibrant Village Border Adventure Tourism and spread the message of “Say No to Drugs” among the youth. Approximately 800 participants from across the country participated in this challenging marathon, playing a key role in establishing a new identity for the border region.
The Adi Kailash Ultra Marathon, covering a distance of approximately 60 kilometers via Gunji and Kalapani, concluded in Gunji. The enthusiasm of athletes from across the country was palpable. The Adi Kailash Ultra Marathon aims to promote tourism in the border areas of Pithoragarh. It is also considered a major initiative to strengthen the homestay economy in these areas.
