In the match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India, after losing the toss, batted first and managed to score 161 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls. Apart from him, no other batsman could make a significant contribution. The American bowlers bowled brilliantly, especially Shadley van Schalkwyk, who was the most successful bowler, taking 4 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. He put the Indian team in trouble by taking three wickets in one over. Mohammed Mohsin also bowled well, conceding only 16 runs and taking 1 wicket in his 4 overs. However, the American batsmen could not replicate the performance of their bowlers.
