The Indian team has made a successful start to their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, defeating the USA by 29 runs in their first match. In the match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India, after losing the toss, batted first and managed to score 161 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls. Apart from him, no other batsman could make a significant contribution. The American bowlers bowled brilliantly, especially Shadley van Schalkwyk, who was the most successful bowler, taking 4 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. He put the Indian team in trouble by taking three wickets in one over. Mohammed Mohsin also bowled well, conceding only 16 runs and taking 1 wicket in his 4 overs. However, the American batsmen could not replicate the performance of their bowlers.
In reply to 162 runs, their batsmen could only manage 132 runs, resulting in a 29-run defeat. For India, Arshdeep Singh took two wickets, Mohammed Siraj took three, and Axar Patel took two wickets. India’s next match will be against Namibia on February 12th.
