P.V Sinidhu wins BWF Badminton World Championship 2019

Olympic silver medalist P.V. Sindhu made history by defeating Nozomi Okuhara in the final of BWF Badminton World Championship-2019 in Switzerland on Sunday. Sindhu won the gold medal in the final of Badminton World Championship 2019. Sindhu became the first Indian player to win a gold medal at the World Championship.Before Sindhu no Indian player male or female had won the gold medal at the Badminton World Championship.

Becomes first Indian player to win Badminton World Championship gold

PV Sindhu defeated Japan player Nozomi Okuhara in the final on Sunday to win the gold medal in the championship for the first time. Sindhu defeated Okuhara 21–7, 21–7 in straight games. This match lasted for 38 minutes. With this victory, Sindhu has made a career record of 9-7 against Okuhara. Indian badminton star Sindhu also avenged the loss in the 2017 final with this historic win. Sindhu, who won silver in 2017 and 2018 and bronze in 2013 and 2014. She started well in the first game and took a 5-1 lead. After this she went ahead 12–2.

Wins Gold in third attempt

Sindhu, who reached the final for the third consecutive year, did not look back after this and won the first game 21-7 after taking a 16-2 lead. The Indian player won the first game in 16 minutes. In the second game, Sindhu started with a 2–0 lead and took an 8–2 lead in the next few minutes. The Olympic medalist Indian player continued to take points through her aggressive game even further.

Sindhu took a 14-4 lead in the match. After this, she won the gold medal for the first time in the BWF Badminton World Championship by taking 21 points continuously and ending the game. Sindhu now has five medals in the BWF Badminton World Championship. These include one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

India had won three silver and six bronze medals in this tournament so far. Sindhu had earlier lost in the finals twice (2017 and 2018) in this tournament. But, this time she broke this deadlock and became the first world champion Indian in badminton.

Sindhu participated in this tournament for the first time in 2013 and since then she has won 21 matches in it. Sindhu has now got five medals in her name. These include one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Sindhu has become the fourth player in the world to win a gold, silver and bronze medal in women’s singles. Prior to that, Li Lingwei, Gong Ruina and Zhang Ning have achieved this feat. India’s famous female badminton player Saina Nehwal won bronze medals in this tournament in 2015 and 2017. Among the male Indians, Prakash Padukone (1983) and B. Sai Praneeth (2019) have won bronze medals so far.
