Andrey Rublev hands Federer his quickest defeat in 16 years

Roger Federer has fallen prey to world number-70 Andre Rublev in the pre-quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Masters. Federer was defeated by Andrey Rublev of Russia 6-3, 6-4 in staright sets. In the quarter-finals, Andre will face compatriot Daniil Medvedev. After losing the match, Roger Federer praised Andre Rublev. Federer lost the match to Rublev within 1 hour. In the last 16 years, Federer had never lost a match within 1 hour.

I did not get a chance in the game – Federer

Federer said after the match, ‘Rublev showed a great game today. He did not give me any chance to come into the match. The match was tough for me, but the game was good for Rublev. I am very impressed with him. After defeating Federer, the Russian player said, ‘This feeling is fantastic when you play in front of a veteran like Federer. Here everyone was supporting him till the end. I hope that will happen to me one day as well.’
