South Africa defeat India to top Group 2 in ICC World T20 2022

South Africa defeated India by five wickets in their group encounter on Sunday. Batting first after winning the toss, India scored 133 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav played an excellent innings of 68 runs in 40 balls. At the same time, Lungi Ngidi took four wickets for South Africa. In reply, South Africa achieved the target in 19.4 overs losing five wickets.

Indian fielders disappointed in the match. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli missed opportunities to dismiss opposition batters. Taking advantage of this, Markram played an innings of 52 runs in 41 balls. At the same time, David Miller scored 59 runs in 46 balls and remained unbeaten. Markram hit six fours and a six in his innings. While, Miller hit four fours and three sixes.

At one point South Africa lost three wickets for 24 runs. Markram and Miller then put on a 76-run partnership and turned the match around. After the dismissal of Markram, Miller held firm ensuring a win for the Proteas. In the last over, South Africa needed six runs to win. The third and fourth balls of Bhuvneshwar’s over gave the South African team victory by hitting two consecutive fours. Arshdeep Singh took two wickets for India.

South Africa’s second win over India in T20 World Cup

This is the Indian team’s first defeat in this tournament against South Africa after the 2009 T20 World Cup. Both the teams have faced each other six times in the T20 World Cup. Out of this, India has won four and South Africa has won two matches. At the same time, this is South Africa’s first win against India in 11 years in any ICC tournament. The last time India lost to South Africa in an ICC tournament was the 2011 ODI World Cup (Nagpur).
