South Africa defeats India in 1st Test in Kolkata

South Africa defeated India by 30 runs in the first Test match played in Kolkata. India took a 30-run lead in the first innings, but South Africa bounced back, relying on their bowling to defeat India and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. South Africa was all out for 153 in their second innings, and with a lead of 123 runs, they set India a target of 124. India’s batting was extremely poor in the second innings, and the team was all out for 93 in the second session.

Washington Sundar scored the most runs for India, scoring 31 runs. Axar Patel was batting well and tried to lead India to victory by hitting consecutive fours and sixes off Keshav Maharaj, but he returned to the pavilion after taking one too many risk. Keshav then dismissed Mohammed Siraj to end India’s innings. India’s captain Shubman Gill did not bat in the second innings either.

For South Africa, Simon Harmer took four wickets, while Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each. Aiden Markram got one wicket.
